The Carolina Panthers and head coach Dave Canales wanted some fire (almost literally) out of their visit to Houston, Texas this week. And well, they certainly got it on Thursday.
Canales and company locked up with the Houston Texans for a hot joint practice this morning, just two days ahead of their preseason matchup at NRG Stadium. He talked about the amped-up conditions from the outing, which forced the teams to deal with a bit of excessive heat.
"We've kinda been spoiled with the weather there a little bit," Canales said of their practices back in Charlotte. "But I felt confident about our conditioning level. I think that we're dosing the guys the right way. Pushing them a little bit beyond their limits every day and trying to increase their workload."
One of the Panthers, rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton , reached his limit on the day. The second-round pick was carted off from the session due to heat-related symptoms.
Canales told reporters that they're hopeful Scourton can play in this weekend's exhibition.
He continued.
"This was a crescendo of the hard work," Canales added. "I love that we were able to come out here, to play all the way through, finish with great two-minute drives over here on the offensive field. I gotta check out the defensive side. But I was looking around, and for the most part, this is a very fit group that's ready to play football."
Kickoff for the Panthers and Texans is slated for 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
