As Penn State was doing what it needed to get a win in Week 2 at home against FIU, the Nittany Lions were in the process of adding a commitment to its Class of 2026 lineup. Defensive lineman Tavian Branch, from Taylor, Pennsylvania, announced his commitment to Penn State with a post on his Instagram account on Saturday afternoon.
Branch measures 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds. He is rated as a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports composite and the Rivals industry ranking.
Branch had previously been committed to Rutgers, but he backed off that commitment a week ago. He had been committed to Rutgers since June, but took an official visit to Penn State this weekend, just days after decommitting from Rutgers. As some had suspected, Branch followed through on a commitment to the Nittany Lions shortly after his official visit to State College.
Branch joins a Penn State Class of 2026 that includes other in-state commits from safety Matt SIeg, edge rusher Jackson Ford, linebacker Terry Wiggins, and athlete David Davis. Penn State's Class of 2026 currently ranks 16th in the nation according to the 247Sports composite team rankings , which is fifth in the Big Ten behind USC, Oregon, Ohio State, and Michigan, respectively. Penn State currently has 25 commitments lined up for the Class of 2026.
