- Report: Cowboys to cut popular undrafted rookie WR after impressive camp, preseason
Cut day has arrived, with aging veterans, pet-cat prospects, and training camp darlings all feeling vulnerable leading up to the afternoon deadline, when the club has to get what was just recently a locker room of 90 men down to a list of 53.
Some of the coming roster moves are going to hurt worse than others.
Rookie wide receiver Traeshon Holden will be among the players waived today by the Cowboys , per an X post from insider Jordan Schultz, who cited a source.
By all accounts, the undrafted free agent out of Oregon had enjoyed an impressive summer of work. He actually led the Cowboys in receiving in their preseason opener versus the Rams and wowed onlookers at more than one practice session as recently as last week.
Some thought Jonathan Mingo 's injury might open the door to Holden to stick around a while longer, but the sheer numbers of the WR room in Dallas look to have worked against him. The Cowboys' receiving corps is led by CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens , with Mingo, Jalen Tolbert , KaVontae Turpin , Jalen Brooks , Ryan Flournoy , and Jalen Cropper in reserve.
While Holden could draw some interest from another club, it is also possible he winds up back with the Cowboys as part of the practice squad.
Either way, the offseason has presented Holden with a marvelous opportunity to showcase his potential as an NFL receiver. Holden himself seemed to acknowledge that with a social media post of his own shortly after word of his release leaked.
The 24-year-old wrote, simply, "Thank you lord" with a blue heart emoji.
