For the first time this season, North Carolina has won five straight games after they took down Miami (FL) at home by 19 points, 92-73, on Saturday. Although the Hurricanes are the worst team in the Atlantic Coast Conference, they still took care of business and hopefully improved their tournament odds with their fourth straight double-digit win.
It didn't take long for the Tar Heels to jump out to a big lead as they went into the half-time break with a 15-point lead. They put on the brakes in the second half, but they didn't go in reverse like we have seen them do so many other times this season. They still won the second-half battle, 46-42, despite letting Miami score 11 more points in the second half than the first.
Six players finished in double figures for North Carolina , led by a 19-point game from Ven-Allen Lubin . Jae'Lyn Withers started again and had the only double-double for the team with 11 points and 10 rebounds with four assists. They play from these two big men has really been what has sparked this five-game win streak and the resurgence of Withers in particular has been fun to watch.
Along with them, Drake Powell had 16 points and six rebounds; RJ Davis had 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Elliot Cadeau was the only starter to not finish in double figures with nine points.
Ian Jackson had 11 points off the bench in just 13 minutes, while Seth Trimble also came off the bench with 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting.
North Carolina will next be in action on Tuesday night, March 4th. They will head on the road to Blacksburg, Virginia, when they take on Virginia Tech in their final game before the Duke finalé next weekend.
