Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia has been the "People's Quarterback" ever since he heroically led the Commodores to an upset win over Alabama last season. His popularity has allowed him to brush shoulders with some big celebrities, including podcast star Theo Von - who he made a fascinating promise to before today's game.
Speaking to Cole Cubelic during today's game between Vanderbilt and the South Carolina Gamecocks, Von revealed that Pavia promised him that if he led the Commodores to victory, he'd let him ask his mom out on a date.
"You don't even want to know what he told me about Diego Pavia's mom," Cubelic said in between plays. "The way I understand the story is that... Diego Pavia wins this game he promised you (Theo Von) he would set you up on a date with his mom?"
"Yes," Von said, nodding.
Von clarified that he only wants to do that to be better friends with Pavia, not to become his stepdad.
"I would like to marry a nurse someday. That's why. I just want to be his friend - I don't want to be his stepdad."
Thanks for clearing that up, Theo.

Diego Pavia's rise
Prior to joining Vanderbilt in 2024, Pavia played football at New Mexico Military Institute and later New Mexico State. Upon joining the Commodores, he emerged as a playmaker capable of extending plays while also protecting the ball well.
By far his biggest moment of glory was leading Vanderbilt to an historic upset over No. 1 Alabama. Later that season, Vanderbilt would beat Auburn to clinch their first bowl appearance in over five years. They would go on to beat Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl for their first bowl win since 2013.
Following the season, Pavia was named SEC Newcomer of the Year and was a Second-Team All-SEC selection. He sued the NCAA for the chance to receive a sixth year of college eligibility and won, securing his position as the team's starter in 2025.
As it stands, Vanderbilt lead South Carolina 24-7 midway through the fourth quarter. If they hold on, Pavia will have to offer his mom's phone number to Theo Von.
