The Crew are starting the 2025 season against the Chicago Fire .
Former Crew and United State national team coach Gregg Berhalter took over as coach in Chicago after the team fired Frank Klopas. Under Klopas, Chicago was 7-18-9 in regular-season play and failed to reach the MLS Cup playoffs, finishing last in the Eastern Conference.

With Berhalter in charge, Crew coach Wilfried Nancy is expecting a different battle compared to Columbus' two victories over Chicago last season.
"Gregg is Gregg," Nancy said. "He likes to put out on the opposition, to unbalance with sped, and also, usually his teams like to press. ... With a lot of respect to the previous coach, but it's not the same style of play. So, Chicago this year, should be interesting to see."
