Klay Thompson fired back at Jason Williams after the retired NBA guard suggested Thompson's girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion, was to blame for his shooting slump .
"I'm from West Virginia, man, I've been taught a lot from old folks, old white folks," Williams said on the "Hoopin' N Hollerin'" podcast with Patrick Beverley . "It only takes one p—y to drag a battleship across the desert. That's how powerful it is."
Williams drew a lot of flak for his comments, and Thompson stepped in to defend the rapper, calling out the two former NBA players on Instagram.
"Referring to my GF as a 'pu—y' is so disgusting and disturbing, " he wrote. "Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way? @patbev21. Do better fellas. Very disappointing."
Thompson currently averages 8.5 points on 32.0 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from the 3-point line. He's coming off his best scoring performance of the season, having dropped 19 points on 6-of-17 from the field in a 123-114 loss to the Phoenix Suns .
The 35-year-old has drawn criticism for his performances, with many pointing to his shooting woes as one of the primary reasons the Mavericks are 3-9 to start the 2025-26 season.
However, their problems run much deeper, to the point where the organization's legend, Dirk Nowitzki , couldn't help but publicly criticize the entire team.
"They can't shoot. They can't make plays. It's all kind of going side to side, east and west handoffs. It's just… nobody can make shots. It's been tough to watch," he said.
With the Mavericks firing Nico Harrison, former majority owner Mark Cuban is back at the table. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix has reported that major roster changes have already been discussed, and Thompson could be one of the first dominoes to fall if the team opts for an overhaul.
Not everything is doom and gloom for the four-time NBA champion.
He and Megan went public with their relationship in July by attending the "Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala" at Gotham Hall together. Ever since, they've shared their love on social media, with one of the rapper's most recent posts even hinting that the two might've moved in together.
Megan also attended a few of the Mavericks' games this season. She was in attendance when Thompson's team lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-94 at the American Airlines Arena — he finished that game with eight points, shooting 3-of-11 from the field.
The two seem to be going strong as a couple, even though some doubters, including Shaquille O'Neal, have predicted their relationship wouldn't last longer than six weeks .
Thompson didn't react to his words. However, he couldn't turn a blind eye to Williams' derogatory remarks.
