The Chicago Cubs have three National League Silver Slugger finalists.
Alex Bregman is a third-base finalist, while Pete Crow-Armstrong and Seiya Suzuki are two of the seven outfield finalists.
The Silver Slugger Award is given annually to the best offensive player at each position in both the National League and the American League. This award is voted on by MLB managers and coaches after every season.
All three Cubs players have a realistic shot at winning the Silver Slugger Award at their respective positions.
Bregman and Max Muncy are the two finalists at third base. The Cubs third baseman put together an all-around strong offensive campaign, slashing .265/.355/.464 with 28 home runs, 33 doubles, two triples, 93 RBI, and three stolen bases across 155 games. Muncy posted similar numbers, slashing .252/.348/.490 with 29 home runs, 27 doubles, one triple, 76 RBI, and three stolen bases in 149 games.
Bregman has the edge over Muncy in the batting average, home runs, doubles, and RBI departments. Muncy, meanwhile, finished with a better OPS (.837) and a higher slugging percentage (.490).
The outfield group is a lot more complicated with seven finalists. Only three of those seven finalists will take home the prestigious Silver Slugger Award.
Crow-Armstrong is easily a lock to win the first Silver Slugger of his career. The Cubs center fielder was arguably the best offensive player in the sport this past season, slashing .280/.372/.570 with 45 home runs, 31 doubles, eight triples, 107 RBI, and 41 stolen bases in 162 games.
As for Suzuki, he'll have to beat out the likes of Corbin Carroll, Jackson Chourio, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jordan Walker, and James Wood. The Japanese slugger slashed .270/.368/.473 with 26 home runs, 31 doubles, 86 RBI, and three stolen bases in 143 games.
While those are solid offensive numbers, Suzuki has some stiff competition. Carroll hit .239 with 72 extra-base hits. Chourio hit .291 with 25 home runs, 73 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. Tatis hit .289 with 25 home runs, 83 RBI, and 38 stolen bases. Walker hit .269 with 29 home runs, 102 RBI, and 22 stolen bases. Wood hit .265 with 30 home runs, 77 RBI, and 21 stolen bases.
The Cubs are also a finalist for the team Silver Slugger Award. They are one of four finalists, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Washington Nationals. The North Siders led the National League in both home runs and runs scored in the regular season.
The winners of these Silver Slugger Awards will be announced on November 17.
