BATON ROUGE, La. — The 7-seed Texas Tech women's basketball team didn't trail the final nine-plus minutes of the game, but there were still tense moments in the fourth quarter. In the end, the result was the Lady Raiders' first NCAA Tournament win since 2005, a 57-52 victory over 10-seed Villanova at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Here are three takeaways from the contest.

Texas Tech women's basketball's Bailey Maupin shows out late
Bailey Maupin delivered in the clutch with 15 of her team-high 17 points in the second half. The Tech captain didn't make a field goal in the first half, shooting 0-of-5. She responded with a 4-of-8 second half, including a 3-pointer with less than three minutes remaining after Villanova pulled within three points. Maupin was also 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the waning moments of the game.
Texas Tech overcomes turnover blues
Texas Tech held on despite 20 turnovers, evenly split between halves. The game was tied 26-26 at halftime, with Villanova converting 10 turnovers into 11 points. The Wildcats didn't have that amount of success in the second half, despite 10 more takeaways. Villanova scored five points off turnovers after the break. Part of that is a credit to the Lady Raiders defense, which held the Wildcats to 9-of-28 shooting in the final two quarters.

Villanova's Kelsey Joens starts red hot, then goes quiet
Villanova junior Kelsey Joens entered Friday averaging 5.1 points per game. She had scored double figures in eight games, however, and added to that total before the first quarter expired. Joens spurred the Wildcats early with 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. The only time she made more 3-pointers in a game was January 8 against Xavier, when Joens scored a season-high 18 points with six treys. She finished with 14 points against Tech on 5-of-8 shooting. Jasmine Bascoe, the Big East's leading scorer, led the team with 21 points.
