Reports have indicated that Brandon Aiyuk plans to return to the field, a shocking situation that the San Francisco 49ers likely weren't expecting to be in.
It's very uncertain what's going on behind the scenes, but Aiyuk has even hired a new agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
The 49ers are now in a strange position because Aiyuk can return to the facility and start working out on Friday.
San Francisco has to decide whether to release him, keep paying him, or move on. It's more than fair to suggest he won't get dealt because of his off-field antics this offseason, but it's still unclear what's going on.
Regardless, some 49ers stars, including Christian McCaffrey, have commented on it. Not many guys wanted to speak a whole lot about the situation, but it doesn't sound like he's as hated in the locker room as some made it seem.
"Man, I don't know. it's not my place really," Nick Bosa said of Aiyuk. "I'll dap him up. No hard feelings between me and him."
"I don't make any of those decisions, so it's not on my radar. I just focus on my job. Haven't thought about it," McCaffrey said , per OurSF49ers.
It's at least promising to see that if Aiyuk were to somehow return and play for the 49ers, guys aren't going to point fingers and have a problem with him.
This is a guy who has shown that he can be one of the best wide receivers in football at any given moment, and with San Francisco's obvious need on that side of the football, perhaps they can look beyond that.
Ultimately, everybody is focused on winning, so if he got the help that he needed and is ready to play, that might be all that needs to happen.
