With the Philadelphia 76ers trading for Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics , there is no denying that the deal sent shockwaves throughout the sports world. While the shocking blockbuster with the 76ers and Brown is dominating the NBA headlines, the team has made its first move since the big news, which includes a former player for the Celtics, funny enough.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Philadelphia is signing guard Anfernee Simons to a two-year deal, worth $12.3 million. Last season, Simons spent 49 games with the Celtics before being traded to the Chicago Bulls , where he played in six contests. In total with both teams, he averaged 14.3 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range.
"Just in: Free agent guard Anfernee Simons has agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers , with a player option in second season, sources tell ESPN. Simons chose the 76ers over other suitors, believing his fit is perfect with the revamped 76ers roster," Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Simons also has averaged 18.8 points per game in the last five seasons, which spans his time with the Portland Trail Blazers before his time in Boston. He also ranked sixth in the NBA in three-pointers made in the second unit last season, giving Philadelphia more of an offensive boost along with Brown.
According to ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel, Simson also had offers "on the table" from the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat .
"Anfernee Simons had deals on the table from Miami and Golden State. The Warriors were offering him a minimum contract as they wait for word from LeBron James , sources told [ClutchPoints]," Siegel wrote on X. "Simons wanted nothing less than $6M a year on a new deal, which is exactly what he gets."
At any rate, it remains to be seen what the 76ers do next in the offseason.
