Aaron Rodgers decided that he was going to return for his 22nd season in the NFL after the Pittsburgh Steelers appointed Mike McCarthy as their head coach.
After his first season with the Steelers, the four-time MVP wanted to retire, but he decided to return for one last season to reunite with McCarthy, with whom he won a Super Bowl.
However, entering this season, he is 42 and has a few limitations, which wasn't the case when the duo were together in Green Bay.
Keyshawn Johnson, who won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, gave his insight on why, this season, not a lot should be expected from Rodgers.
Rodgers threw for 3,322 yards and had 24 touchdowns, helping the Steelers win the AFC North title.
However, he was unable to lead them deep into the playoffs, as they lost 6-30 in the Wildcard round to the Houston Texans.
It was clear that with his age, there were also limitations to his game, which is what Johnson pointed out while speaking about Rodgers.
"Aaron Rodgers is a 1,000 years old man," said Johnson on The Schultz Report.
"You can only get so much juice out of a dry lemon and Aaron Rodgers is a dry lemon at this stage of his career."
Schultz then pushed back and reminded Johnson that Rodgers was still one of the greatest QBs in modern football. But the former NFL player stated that this version of Rodgers is not the same as to the one fans saw in Green Bay.
"His name is certainly still Aaron Rodgers; he hasn't changed his name…First thing you said: he's still Aaron Rodgers- where? At the back of his jersey, his last name? That's why he's Aaron Rodgers, cause on the field, he ain't Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP; he's just not.
"Father Time catches up to you, that's okay, he can still play football, but he's not at the level what we remember in Green Bay, so we can't force it to be what it's not."
Rodgers certainly is not as athletic as he once was, but he still has one of the best throws of any QB in the league.
Recently, even the great Tom Brady gave him flowers for the way he plays the QB position.
The Steelers have two youngsters in the QB room – Drew Allar and Will Howard. While Rodgers has already announced that it is his last season, the two will be hoping to take as much as they can from the legend and help set themselves up for a great career ahead.
