During his first — and possibly only — season with the Pittsburgh Steelers , Aaron Rodgers took rookie quarterback Will Howard under his wing. Speaking publicly for the first time since the dust cleared on the campaign, the four-time Associated Press NFL MVP showered praise on his fellow quarterbacks, including the Ohio State product.
"What a great young player," he said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "He's just got the right moxie, the right personality and loved working with him."
New Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has talked this offseason about how excited he is to work with Howard. Pittsburgh's decision-makers are waiting on Rodgers to decide if he wants to return, as well, even though Steelers general manager Omar Khan said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine that he hadn't set a date for Rodgers to make his choice by.
"No deadline," Khan said . "All I'll tell you guys is I don't foresee this going like it did last year."
Rodgers will turn 43 next season, which would be his 22nd in the NFL. During his first campaign in Pittsburgh, he went 10-6, throwing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
"I think right now, I'd say all options are on the table," Khan said. "I'll say this. We'd certainly welcome Aaron back. It was a really good experience with him. I really enjoyed getting to know him and he was great to have around. But the reality is we're all searching for that next guy, that next 10-15 year guy. I guess right now, all options are on the table."
Howard, who won a College Football Playoff national championship with the Buckeyes, was a sixth-round draft pick last year. He missed a good chunk of last season after injuring his pinky finger in training camp.
