Aaron Rodgers is not ready to say if he’s made a decision about his future in the NFL.
The Pittsburgh Steelers ’ quarterback was asked several questions about his potential retirement after the team’s wild-card loss to the Houston Texans Monday night — specifically, if the loss impacted his decision.
“I’m not going to make any emotional decisions,” Rodgers said after the game. “(I’m) disappointed. You know, it’s obviously such a fun year. A lot of adversity, but a lot of fun. Been a great year, you know, overall in my life in the last year, and this is a really good part of that, coming here and being part of this team.
“So, it’s disappointing to be sitting here with the season over.”
Rodgers said he would not answer if he wanted to end his career with the Steelers. He added that he will get away and “have the right conversations” when making the decision.
Rodgers finished Monday night’s game by going 17 for 33 and 146 yards. He was intercepted once and sacked four times.
“Every game could be my final game,” Rodgers said when asked if he entered the night thinking it could be the end.
Over the summer, Rodgers said on “ The Pat McAfee Show ” that his 21st season in the league was likely his last .
Rodgers spent 18 years with the Green Bay Packers and two with the New York Jets — although his first season with the Jets was cut short after he suffered a torn Achilles on the opening drive of Week 1.
Rodgers signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh in June after an offseason of speculation about whether or not he planned to retire.
“I was fortunate to play in an incredible football city for 18 years, and I never took it for granted and enjoyed that time there,” Rodgers said. “This has been a really beautiful back end to that first 18, you know, to be able to be here for a year.
“This is a special place. Got tradition, got excellence, got all-time greats. ... There’s only a few special places in the league that have the tradition and the town and the organization. I’m thankful to have played for two of them.”
