ESPN's Adam Schefter shared an update on New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown's injury situation.
Brown has been listed as having both an ankle and knee injury. He has missed multiple practices, and he also sat out the trip to Miami to face the Dolphins last week.
Schefter explained that the knee issue is ultimately what kept Brown out last week, and it has created real concerns about his ability to contribute the way that the team hoped when they traded two draft picks, including a 2028 first-rounder, to get him from the Philadelphia Eagles .
"It flared up. ...I know it says ankle and knee, but it's the knee," Schefter said on ESPN's Get Up . "The knee held him out last week, and the knee is threatening to hold him out this week. It's a knee that I think raises some concerns as to how long he's gonna keep playing here in New England, and producing at a high level."
Brown's knee injury isn't anything new.
Other teams were believed to have been interested in him during the offseason, but concerns about his knee issues might have created some hesitancy in teams making a move. The Los Angeles Rams, in particular, were believed to have shown interest before being scared off by Brown's knee issues.
The Patriots were the one team willing to take the risk in an effort to upgrade the receiver position around third-year quarterback Drake Maye. So far, Brown has only appeared in three games with nine catches for 101 yards and no touchdowns.
