As fun as social media can be, it comes with drawbacks. Reconnecting with long-lost relatives is great. Constant Baltimore Ravens updates have their appeal, but they're mixed in with anonymous threats and links to more podcasts. Seriously, how many of those are there now? It has to be in the millions.
If you're patient enough to wade through the minutiae, you might hit the lottery and find some good ones. The waters can be tricky, though. You're just as likely to find ten that never should have hit the record button.
Guess what? Adam Scefter has a podcast. Who knew? Now, we realize some of you have preferred sources, but it seems a good investment to check in every so often and see what ESPN's Senior NFL Insider has to say.
It's hard to convince Ravens fans that this season has any silver linings. Almost everyone sees the clouds, but getting the jump on finding a new head coach may prove fruitful. That is, if Baltimore stops dragging their feet.
Adam Schefter explains possible reasons behind an elongated Ravens coaching search.
It only feels contradictory to state this. A desirable job isn't always filled quickly. In fact, it's easy to see the opposite. When a vacancy is attractive, the team can find leverage. That sometimes encourages patience.
Baltimore fired John Harbaugh two days after the Ravens' gut-wrenching loss in the regular-season finale . More than two weeks later, they're only starting the second round of interviews.
Four of the NFL's ten vacancies have already been filled. Two guys in Baltimore who showed interest are off the table. Robert Saleh will lead the Tennessee Titans , while Kevin Stefanski signs with the Atlanta Falcons .
What's taking the Ravens so long, you ask? For that, we turn our attention back to Schefter's podcasts. He has his theory. Don't panic if you're beginning to. Patience may indeed be part of the Ravens' plan.
"The way the Ravens are approaching this hiring cycle, to me, is very similar to the way that they draft. They watch all the teams in front of them make their moves, and then the Baltimore Ravens step in and make their selection with whatever greatness is left…They're letting Atlanta hire. They're letting Miami hire. They're letting Tennessee hire, and these would not have been the hires that the Ravens would've made anyway… In the end, they're gonna pick some guy, that's gonna come in there, and probably be as much of a success as a coach, as many of their top draft picks have been."
What do you think? Is there something to that? Maybe time will tell, as they say. It's comforting to know that, of the four men hired, none were landing in Baltimore, but this isn't a business that always thrives on patience. Time is ticking. Another new league year approaches.
Still, there's little reason to panic. The Ravens are likely to have a new head coach in place before the next round of OTAs (we're teasing), and when they do, the hope is simple. That will mean the wait was worth it, and they got the hire right.
