The First Base Dilemma in Minnesota and Cleveland

Josh Bell's exit from the Minnesota Twins opens up a massive hole for a young core to fill. The team plans to move Royce Lewis to first base to plug the gap. This shift creates a ripple effect for other players like Kody Clemens and Luke Keaschall. The Twins also have Brooks Lee, Kaelen Culpepper, Byron Buxton, Emmanuel Rodriguez, and Walker Jenkins in the mix. The rotation will likely lose Joe Ryan as internal options like Zebby Matthews, Mick Abel, Dean Kremer, and Connor Prielipp step up to take his spot. Pablo López remains a key piece, but the offense needs new blood.

Cleveland faces a similar issue if Nathaniel Lowe walks away in free agency. The Guardians have a clear gap at first base that needs filling. Ralphy Velazquez and Kyle Manzardo are the primary internal options to watch. Jo Adell, Jake Bauers, and Cooper Ingle are also on the roster, but none are guaranteed to start. The back-end rotation depth is expected to be solid, so Cade Smith's workload is not a worry yet. Parker Messick, Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, and Slade Cecconi form the depth chart behind the starters.

Left Field Woes and Bullpen Chaos in Kansas City

The Kansas City Royals have a glaring hole in left field that cannot be ignored. Vinnie Pasquantino is a valuable asset after a strong finish to the season, but he cannot play every position. Jac Caglianone is a top prospect who could help, but he is not ready to be the full-time solution. Salvador Perez, Isaac Collins, Kyle Isbel, Taylor Ward, Randal Grichuk, and Carson Roccaforte are the other names in the mix. The team needs a clear plan to fill this spot before the 2027 season starts.

Per Pitcher List, the hosts noted that Kevin was wrong about Carter Jensen. The projection now shows Michael Massey as an everyday second baseman. Nick Loftin is also in the conversation, but Massey seems to be the favorite. Cole Ragans and Seth Lugo are key pitchers to watch for the Royals. The bullpen situation remains fluid, with only about 10 to 12 closers feeling locked in at this early stage. The rest of the relief corps is wide open for change.

Young Stars Rising in Chicago and Detroit

The Chicago White Sox are building around a young core that is ready to play. Kyle Teel catches, Colson Montgomery holds shortstop, and the young outfield is surging. Joey Bart, Chase Meidroth, Miguel Vargas, Tristan Peters, Sam Antonacci, and Braden Montgomery are all part of this group. The team needs veteran rotation help to stabilize the pitching staff. Grant Taylor is a wild card who could be a starter or a closer. Luis Castillo, Shane Smith, Noah Schultz, Trevor Rogers, and Tyler Mahle are other names to consider for the rotation.

Detroit Tigers have made moves to fill their holes as well. Hao-Yu Lee steps in at second base to provide stability. River Ryan joins the rotation to add depth. Gleyber Torres is another name to watch in the infield. Zyhir Hope, Troy Melton, Framber Valdez, and Jackson Jobe are key prospects or players for the Tigers. Kenley Jansen likely returns to close games for the team. The hosts also noted that waiting on first base in 2027 drafts is a good strategy for the Tigers too.

The AL Central is a division where the gaps in the lineup create value for late-round picks. The numbers show that players who finished strong in the final six weeks of 2026 are the ones to target. The "Opportunity Knocking" series highlights that the Twins, Royals, and Guardians all have specific positions that are up for grabs. This creates a unique landscape for fantasy managers who are willing to take risks on young players.

Waiting on first base is the most consistent advice coming out of these reports. With Lowe, Bell, and others potentially leaving, the supply of top-tier first basemen will drop. This drives up the value of players like Royce Lewis or Kyle Manzardo who are moving into those spots. The same logic applies to left field in Kansas City. If you can find a player who fits into one of these holes, you get a starter for the price of a bench player.

The bullpen situation adds another layer of complexity. Only about 10 to 12 closers are locked in, which means the rest of the market is volatile. Teams like the Royals and White Sox have young arms who could take over late-game roles. This volatility means you should not draft too many relievers early. Instead, wait and see how the free agency and trade markets play out before committing to a specific name.

The Twins need a new designated hitter after Josh Bell leaves.

The Guardians face a potential hole at first base if Nathaniel Lowe departs.

The Royals have a major gap in left field that needs filling.

Only 10 to 12 closers feel locked in for the 2027 season.

Waiting on first base is a smart strategy for 2027 drafts.

The data from Pitcher List and Razzball shows that the AL Central is ripe for opportunity. The division is not dominated by one team, but rather by several teams with specific needs. This fragmentation creates value for fantasy managers who can identify the right players to fill those gaps. The key is to focus on the stats from the final six weeks of 2026 and ignore the full-year averages for players who finished strong.
