The Alabama Crimson Tide received bad news on Monday after five-star freshman Jireh Edwards suffered an arm injury during practice. He was forced to undergo surgery on his right arm. While the news is less than ideal, Tuesday's reports provide a silver lining for the situation.
Edwards, who is a Maryland native, was informed that despite undergoing surgery, there is a belief that he will return well before the end of the 2026-27 campaign , according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Alabama is optimistic and hopes he can return early in the season.

Jireh Edwards is a 6-foot-2, 218 lbs safety who committed to Alabama in July 2025. The Crimson Tide has a loaded secondary, and now, due to the injury, Edwards may not see much playing time at all in his first year in college. Head coach Kalen DeBoer has two safety's in the starting positions who are both seniors: Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb .
While Edwards may not play a whole lot in Year 1 at Alabama, he brings strong depth to a deep roster. Additionally, if he can heal from the surgery sooner rather than later, he can jump back into training as a safety, furthering his development for future years.
While Jireh Edwards works his way back from injury, Alabama will focus on the upcoming season . The Crimson Tide are scheduled to kickoff the new campaign with a Week 1 home opener against the East Carolina Pirates .
