Auburn's offense has struggled to find any rhythm against Baylor, with the Tigers failing to consistently move the ball. The running game has been underwhelming so far, and fans are calling out the Tigers on X.
Auburn's slow start is especially concerning because establishing the run was expected to be a major part of Alex Golesh's offensive approach.
Here's how the fans reacted to Auburn's early struggles against Baylor.
"Already the worst 3rd down team ever," On3's Blain Crain wrote .
"So far the Auburn running game has been ineffective," a fan wrote.
"The Auburn offense is off to an underwhelming start," a fan wrote.
"Looking a little robotic on offense right now," a fan wrote.
"Come on Auburn! We have to get stops on third down!" a fan wrote.
At the end of the first quarter, the Auburn Tigers are leading 3-0. Their offense continues to struggle against Baylor, managing just 53 total yards and two first downs. Baylor has 179 yards and 10 first downs while also holding a significant edge in time of possession.
The running game remains a major problem, as Auburn has just four rushing yards on 10 attempts, averaging 0.4 yards per carry. There's still plenty of game left to be played, but the Tigers will need a big push if they are to dominate the game as they were expected to.
Baylor Game is Critical for Alex Golesh
After three years as the head coach of the South Florida Bulls, Alex Golesh was hired by the Auburn Tigers. The program has had six different coaches since 2020, so the pressure was on Golesh from the beginning.
As per ESPN's Paul Finebaum, the matchup against Baylor is critical for Golesh.
"I think Alex Golesh (Saturday) has a critical moment," Finebaum said, per SI . "You have everybody thinking they can turn this around. You haven't been to a bowl game in (three) years."
On an episode of The Paul Finebaum Show, the media veteran said that the Auburn Tigers will win on Saturday.
"I can't wait. I think that's one of the most intriguing games of the weekend," he said. "And I think by 7 o'clock Saturday, Auburn fans are going to be feeling great."
