Andy Robertson has opened up on the emotional impact of Diogo Jota 's passing on the Liverpool squad last season.
The Scotland captain said he and his teammates 'didn't care about football' following the tragic passing of Jota, who died in a car accident alongside his brother, Andre Silva, last July.
Robertson was a close friend of Jota and celebrated the latter's wedding just days before his death.
In a clip shared by Sky Sports' Stick to Football podcast , Robertson said Jota's passing left Liverpool 'heartbroken' as a club and opened up on the impact on the squad during a season in which the Reds underperformed after Premier League title success in 2025.
"It's difficult to describe or talk about. What we went through was horrendous," Robertson said.
"If I'm talking about the new signings, they're coming into a club that's heartbroken. That's where I felt so sorry for those guys, because they had signed and they were signing for big money.
"If I'm talking about football, it took them months to settle in, because we didn't care about football. That was the truth of it, we didn't care about football because you've just lost one of your best mates in the changing room.
"I think all footballers we have that edge, don't we? When you lose that edge you can't perform to your best. I think last season we lost the edge. When I look back on it now, we lost that determination a little bit, and things like that, because I know at times we were maybe going what's the point? Look at what Jots' family are going through, look at his kids.
"We were grieving. It's our mate at the end of the day, it's not a footballer to us, he was a teammate, he was a friend. For us, it was incredibly difficult.
"The week before he died I was at his wedding. That's one of the most difficult things you'll ever go through, seeing him on the happiest day of his life, then the next week you're seeing his family torn apart."
