It looks like an itinerary that must have been cobbled together by a sadistic travel agent:
• April 3-May 2: Vancouver, British Columbia
• May 5-27: Manchester, NH
• June 26-July 5: Dunedin, FL
• July 8-Aug. 2: back to Manchester

• Aug. 5-Sept. 23: Madison, AL
• Oct. 3-Nov. 14: Mesa, AZ
If you were to drive all of the legs on that trip, you'd cover 8,789 miles, which is the approximate distance between New York City and Sydney, Australia.
Welcome to the year of Los Angeles Angels ' shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala.
The 20-year-old began the 2026 minor-league season with the High-A Vancouver Canadians in the Northwest League as the No. 2 prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays' system, according to MLB.com.
After 23 games in Vancouver, he was promoted to Toronto's Double-A club in the Eastern League, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Manchester, NH. After a month in Manchester, he was sidelined by a right hamstring injury and before returning to the New Hampshire lineup, he took a detour to Dunedin, FL, for six rehab games between June 26 and July 5.

Beginning July 8, he played 15 more games for New Hampshire before his career - and life - got turned on its head. Nimmala was the headline prospect piece in the MLB deadline-day trade on Aug. 3 that sent him to the Angels in exchange for pitcher Jose Soriano .
That meant a quick trip south to the Huntsville, AL, suburb of Madison, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Angels' Double-A affiliate in the Southern League. Nimmala, who instantly became the Angels' No. 1 prospect after the trade, quickly acclimated to his new surroundings as helped the Trash Pandas earn a playoff spot, then had a couple big hits in the championship series as Rocket City won its first-ever Southern League title over the Biloxi Shuckers on Sept. 20.
"I got a call from the [Toronto] farm director and he said we just traded you to the Angels for Jose Soriano and it was crazy; I had no expectations, no thoughts going into deadline day," Nimmala said in a video interview posted on MLB.com on Oct. 6. "Obviously, the biggest thing was just continue to play baseball through the rest of the season. It came as a shock to me, but now I look back on it, it was a pretty good thing to happen. Knowing that the Angels believed in me and saw the potential in me; it makes me super-proud and I just want to prove them right."
Nimmala had scant time to even celebrate the Southern League title as he was soon off to Mesa, AZ, as one of eight Angels' farmhands who had been chosen to participate in the Arizona Fall League from Oct. 3-Nov. 14 as members of the Mesa Solar Sox.

That's quite the whirlwind tour for Nimmala, who will turn 21 on Oct. 16, especially for a kid from Dover, FL, an unincorporated town of less than 4,000 residents about 30 minutes east of Tampa.
Many scouts had flocked to Dover's Strawberry Crest High School in 2023 to see Nimmala play. He made the trips worthwhile as he was taken with the 20th overall pick by the Blue Jays in that year's MLB Draft. Nimmala's talents on the diamond weren't the only thing that made him stand out; when the Blue Jays selected him he became the first Indian-American to be chosen in the first round of any MLB draft.
Now, Nimmala is toiling away in Mesa, hoping seven more weeks of hard work will smooth out any remaining rough edges in his game as he looks to potentially make the leap to the big leagues in 2027.
"The biggest things I'm trying to work on is just continuing to improve," he continued in the video. "There are aspects in everybody's game, and mine too, that I need to continue to work on offensively, defensively, on the bases, all that stuff. For me, there's little things in every aspect of the game. I truly believe that I can be a threat on the bases, so I'm working on that on the bases. I think I can play a more consistent shortstop, as well. As a hitter, it's just putting myself in a position to put up consistent at-bats every single at-bat."

One thing Nimmala does know is that when - not if, when - he makes it to the majors he'd like to set a positive example for other players from his community.
"For me to be in this situation makes me super-proud because I do know when things go the way that I think they will, I'm going to be doing as much as I can to grow the game in India," he concluded.
