Arizona Cardinalsrunning back Jeremiyah Love suffered a right ankle injury in the team's 33-30 overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys, but head coach Mike LaFleur kept the updates light in his press conference on Monday, Nov. 2.
LaFleur said that he had not yet met with Love, and that he would have more updates on Wednesday, Nov. 4 — after meeting with the player.

That said, the news did not sound good. LaFleur said that Love's injury is to a "new portion" of the ankle, potentially a sign of a high-ankle sprain. He also did not answer when asked whether Love could be placed on injured reserve.
"Hang with me on that one," LaFleur said. "I'll talk to you guys Wednesday."
Love returned from a left ankle injury to be able to play against the Cowboys, but his right ankle was rolled up on during a tackle on the last play of the first quarter. After Love went to the sideline, he was seen visibly frustrated, and he never got back into the game. Love previously suffered a high-ankle sprain to that same ankle during preseason.
Love has 268 rushing yards on 76 carries over six games played this season, averaging 3.5 yards per carry as his rookie season has been besieged by injury. He also has a rushing and receiving touchdown.

"It just stinks for him," LaFleur said. "He wants to be out there helping his teammates. This guy loves ball. He just wants to contribute. He's such a team guy, such a coachable guy, such a likeable guy. He just wants to be out there helping his guys. For him to go through what he's going through, it's adversity for sure, but he's going to be stronger because of this."

The Cardinals also lost other key players to injury on Nov. 1. Running back Bam Knight ended up in concussion protocol but is feeling better, LaFleur said. Wide receiver Reggie Virgil collided with the padding over a goal post and came out of the game late in the fourth quarter, but was OK on Monday.
Offensive tackle Jayden Williams left Sunday's game as well in the second half, but there was no update on his status.
The most significant injury, though, occurred to wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. He suffered a fractured tibia that will sideline him for three months, ending his season despite not requiring surgery.
Wilson, Fehoko help Cardinals overcome injuries
With Michael Wilson playing through two broken ribs, the Cardinals wide receivers dialed up the creative thinking late in their overtime win.

LaFleur said that Wilson and wide receiver teammate Simi Fehoko switched responsibilities of their own volition on a handful of plays, so that Fehoko could absorb more physical contact to keep Wilson from aggravating his injury.
"It was some sweet stuff, some gangster stuff," LaFleur said. "I'm proud of those guys. It was really cool."
LaFleur said Wilson is typically asked to block a safety on given play calls. But Fehoko took over that role.
"I'm guessing Mike didn't say, 'Simi, you do it,'" LaFleur said. "I'm guessing Simi probably told Mike, 'Hey, I got this for you.'"

After all, the Cardinals had nowhere else to turn. They were down to three healthy active wide receivers, including the ailing Wilson.
LaFleur explains key late decisions
Trailing by three points with 2:11 to play and one timeout, LaFleur opted for an onside kick, rather than pinning the Cowboys in their own territory. The kick failed, but the Cardinals held the Cowboys to a three-and-out field goal, setting up their game-tying touchdown drive, which began with 1:05 remaining.
"I felt like, let's go play in attack mode right here," LaFleur said, adding that it was "a gut decision."

Although the Cowboys recovered the kick, it may have ultimately worked in the Cardinals' favor, prompting Dallas to play more conservatively on its offensive possession. But that didn't stop LaFleur from receiving an immediate phone call from his brother, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
"My brother called right away," LaFleur said. "And said, 'You ready to get critiqued?' This was about six minutes after."
The Cardinals' other controversial late decision, LaFleur revealed, was not an intentional move. With 6 seconds remaining and Dallas holding one timeout, the Cardinals kicked a touchback, placing the Cowboys at the 35-yard line. That gave them an opportunity to run one offensive play, which would have put them in range of a Hail Mary — or even a miracle field goal attempt — had Dak Prescott completed his pass attempt.
"We didn't want to do that," LaFleur said. "We wanted to keep that one in play. So that was that. We've gotta execute that better."
