The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2025, questions they face and their roster outlook.
Here is cornerback Elijah Jones .
Elijah Jones background, 2025 season
Jones enters his third NFL season and his third with the Cardinals. He was drafted in the third round in 2024 out of Boston College as a long, very athletic cornerback. He spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve.
Last season, he was on the active roster all season. He was inactive as a healthy scratch seven times and appeared in 10 games. He played 37 snaps on defense and 68 on special teams. He finished the year with three total tackles and two pass breakups.
Elijah Jones contract details, salary cap hit
He enters Year 3 of his four-year, almost $5.7 million contract. He is scheduled to earn more than $1.3 million in salary and will count under $1.6 million against the salary cap.
Roster outlook, questions he faces
Jones is, at best, on the roster bubble. He doesn't seem to be competing for a starting job. Will Johnson has one side set. Sean Murphy-Bunting is locked into the nickel role while Garrett Williams recovers from a torn Achilles, and Denzel Burke , Max Melton and Star Thomas are competing for the other starting job.
Jones needs to show much more than he has in two seasons, and as he is in his third NFL season, the Cardinals might have seen enough to not even keep him on the practice squad.
