- Arkansas passing game finally finds other options at receiver

The Arkansas football offense woke up on Saturday night against Vanderbilt. Through the first six weeks of the season - half of the 2026 campaign - the Razorbacks had failed to develop and discover a true second threat at wide receiver behind star performer Chris Marshall. In Week 7, the help finally arrived for Marshall and the Hogs.
On a night when KJ Jackson looked like a decent quarterback and the Arkansas offense looked functional and reasonably productive, the Hogs' receivers sprang to life after being in hibernation for the first half of the season.

There was Monte Harrison grabbing a downfield pass for a big gain. Then came Antonio Jordan collecting a pass for 32 yards to set up a go-ahead UA touchdown in the second half. Even some other passes went to non-Marshall receivers which were called back by penalties. The larger reality was clear enough: For one night, other Arkansas receivers stepped up. For one night, a defense couldn't focus solely on Marshall. The other half of the field was a dangerous place for an opposing defense. Arkansas and KJ Jackson found open spaces and downfield opportunities.
Arkansas finally looked like a team with a genuinely respectable offense. It wasn't dominant, but it also wasn't impotent. This was more than just having one good quarter of offensive line play, as was the case against Tennessee. Arkansas was able to repeatedly push the ball down the field. The Hog offense looked genuinely dangerous. It was not a night when UA struggling on offense was a foregone conclusion. The Razorbacks looked threatening when they got the ball. After being locked into a dreary, soul-crushing pattern of offensive impotence, especially in the passing game, the Hogs finally showed they could spray the ball all over the field. It was no longer the simplistic approach of "find Chris Marshall" or dink and dunk with screens and quick throws. There was finally some real diversity, texture, and a fresh assortment of attack lines from Ryan Silverfield's offense.
We can sit here and say that Vanderbilt is, alongside Arkansas, one of the worst teams in the SEC. We can acknowledge that Vanderbilt does not set the bar very high and is not some glorious, gleaming prize for Arkansas. However, we all knew this had to be a night when we saw something more, something better, from the Arkansas offense. The simple truth is that we did. Hopefully it becomes a building block for what's left of this SEC football season.
