Arsenal's long-running interest in Desire Doue appears to be heading towards a familiar conclusion, with TeamTalk reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are making progress in talks over a new contract for the French attacker.
The 20-year-old has been watched closely by Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, with all three clubs exploring his situation as they weighed up future attacking options. Yet the clearest message from Paris has remained consistent. Doue was "not looking to leave PSG" and was "ready to commit his future to the club".
That stance now looks increasingly significant. Doue's current deal already runs until 2029, but PSG are working on an extension that is "expected to keep him in Paris well into the next decade". While there is no completed agreement yet, the direction of travel is obvious. PSG want to lock down one of their most valuable young players and remove any opening for Premier League clubs.
Arsenal's admiration for Doue makes sense. He is young, technically sharp and capable of operating across the forward line. PSG, though, have little incentive to entertain interest. Since his move from Rennes in 2024, the report states that Doue has "developed into a central figure under Luis Enrique" and has become "one of the club's key attacking performers".
Those are not the descriptions of a player on the fringes or one who might be available for the right price. They point to someone PSG see as central to the project. The club's "determination to secure his long-term future" has only strengthened as his influence has grown.

It is also telling that, despite heavy competition in PSG's forward line, Doue has continued to rise. He "has continued to cement his position in Enrique's plans", with his "versatility, quality in possession and attacking threat" making him increasingly difficult to dislodge.
The report outlines how Doue has thrived in elite company. He was initially part of a four-man attacking setup alongside Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola. Over time, Enrique "settled on Doue, Dembele and Kvaratskhelia as his preferred attacking combination", a call that clarified PSG's pecking order.
That attacking hierarchy mattered. Barcola's move to Liverpool this summer was shaped in part by his reduced route to regular starts, while Doue's place became stronger. PSG now view him as part of the core, not as a promising option who could still be sacrificed.
For Arsenal, there is frustration in that. Interest can be genuine, checks can be made, and admiration can be longstanding, but none of it matters much if the player and selling club are aligned. As the report puts it, recent developments are "a slight setback" for Arsenal and the reality is they had "received little encouragement in the last 18-months".
Bayern Munich remain attentive after missing out when Doue joined PSG from Rennes, and that underlines the calibre of player in question. Across Europe, his stock is high. PSG are simply moving with the urgency of a club that knows exactly what it has.
For Arsenal, this increasingly looks like a door closing rather than one left ajar. Unless talks unexpectedly stall, Doue seems set to remain in Paris, and Arsenal may need to redirect their search for attacking reinforcement elsewhere.
This is the kind of update Arsenal supporters have become tired of reading. The club identify top-level talent early, track the player, do the background work, then watch the trail go cold while another club moves decisively to secure the situation. If Doue was admired so strongly, why has this always felt so distant?
There is no shame in missing out on an elite young forward who wants to stay at PSG. The frustration comes from how often Arsenal seem to arrive at the same point, admiration without outcome. "Not looking to leave PSG" and "ready to commit his future to the club" are pretty definitive lines, and if that was the message for some time, energy should already have been shifted elsewhere.
What stings most is the profile. Arsenal need more invention, more unpredictability and more one-v-one quality in attacking areas. Doue looked like the sort of player who could genuinely elevate the frontline. Hearing that he has "continued to cement his position" and become "central to their plans" only reinforces why he was worth wanting in the first place.
The concern now is whether Arsenal act quickly on alternative targets, or whether this becomes another saga that drifts before ending exactly as expected. Recruitment at this level is hard, but it still has to feel sharper than this. Missing on a top target is understandable, repeating the same pattern is much harder to accept.
