It was an interesting night on Saturday for two former Auburn Tiger quarterbacks.
As the college football season got back under way with Week 0, a few former signal callers from last year's roster made their debut with their new teams.
And the results couldn't have been any different.
First, former Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels, who started late in the season last year for the Tigers, made his debut as the new starter for the Florida State Seminoles.
And although Florida State picked up the win against the New Mexico State Aggies, it wasn't in an impressive fashion that will likely help the job security of head coach Mike Norvell or perhaps the job security of starting quarterback Ashton Daniels the rest of the way.
Heading into the game, there was speculation on whether Daniels was to be named the starter, and during his time under center on Saturday, he had a mediocre outing. Daniels went 17 for 27 with 202 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed for 30 yards on the ground and picked up a touchdown in the process. Not a terrible start for Daniels, but obviously the competition will certainly get tougher inside the ACC for Florida State.
He wasn't the only former Tiger who took snaps as quarterback in 2025 and made his debut for his new team Saturday night, as Jackson Arnold appeared at quarterback for UNLV in the nightcap of Week 0.
And unfortunately, it went about as expected for Arnold, compared to how he looked last year in an Auburn uniform.
UNLV, which is head-coached by former Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen and was seen as one of the favorites to represent the Group of Six playoff spot heading into the college football season, fell to the Memphis Tigers 27-21 in the opening game of the year. Jackson Arnold put up some numbers on the box score but couldn't get the job done when needed at the end of the game.
Arnold went 25 for 37 with 291 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards and a rushing score. However, Arnold was sacked multiple times, including a few on fourth down when he needed to extend the drive to keep UNLV in the game. Something Auburn's fans might have PTSD from last season
The Memphis Tigers recorded six sacks in the contest, ultimately helping them take down the Rebels in Week 0 action.
It'll certainly be interesting to see how these two former Auburn quarterbacks thrive now that they are no longer on the Plains. The quarterback room of 2025 consisted of one other transfer, Deuce Knight, who left Auburn for Ole Miss and is projected to be the backup behind Trinidad Chambliss this upcoming season.
