It was a very below-average year for the Houston Astros , and there's no other way to put that. The Astros were hopeful that things were going to be much better after a somewhat disappointing year the season prior.
However, the Astros really just couldn't get anything going on either side of the baseball for much of the season, despite winning the AL West. Had this been any other season, it feels like the Astros wouldn't have made the postseason, so that's not much of their fault. At the end of the day, they did what they had to do, at least in the simple sense of winning the division.
One of the worst teams ever to make the playoffs, at least statistically, that still showed up in the postseason.
The Astros were unable to get much going on either side of the baseball, a very concerning sign as many were hoping that things would be different. While that wasn't the case, fan favorite Jose Altuve knows that things are going to change in the future.
He sent a message to Astros fans after being eliminated, adding that he's going to find a way to come back better and that this team is going to be different than it was during this season.
"It's sad because I've seen these guys work really hard and overcome adversities. They never gave up. Obviously, it's a sad day for us. We wanted to get into the (next round of the) playoffs, but I guess they (White Sox) played better," he said on the broadcast.
"We're gonna find a way to come back and get back into the playoffs and win. That's all I've got to say," added Altuve , H/T Clutch Points.
Altuve certainly wasn't the guy to blame for all of the problems that the Astros faced this year, though it was a collective effort.
There were times when nothing was going right, and part of that was Altuve's baseball. It'll be interesting to see what moves the Astros make this offseason, but there's definitely a lot that has to give.
