The Atlanta Braves are bringing back a familiar face amid their series against the NL East rival New York Mets .
On Tuesday, the Braves re-signed veteran Kyle Farmer to a minor-league deal after releasing him from the club last week as the corresponding move to activate Mike Yastrzemski from the 10-day injured list.
Farmer's return will provide additional insurance in Atlanta's infield room alongside Matt Olson , Ozzie Albies , Austin Riley , Ha-Seong Kim , Jim Jarvis and Mauricio Dubón .
Farmer has batted .267 while recording four hits and three RBI in 12 games of action for Atlanta. He would have his best game as a Brave in the team's 13-1 blowout victory over the Cleveland Guardians on April 12, going 1-for-3 at the plate and knocking in two RBIs.
Since then, however, the 35-year-old Atlanta native has been mostly quiet at the plate.
Farmer initially got drafted by the New York Yankees 1,087th overall out of Georgia in 2012, but opted to remain a Bulldog for one more season--a decision that paid off.
The following year, he was selected 244th overall in the 8th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers who he spent two seasons with in 2017 and 2018.
Then, the Dodgers traded him to the Cincinnati Reds in December 2018 where he stayed until 2022. In his final season as a Red, Farmer batted .255 while logging 78 RBI and 14 home runs plus a career-high 134 hits.
In 2023, Farmer would find another new home in the Minnesota Twins . Regardless, his second season in 2024 did not go as he hoped when he hit .214 while tallying 46 hits, 25 RBI and five home runs.
As a result, he would have to take his talents to the Colorado Rockies in 2025.
There, Farmer hit just .227 while recording 63 hits, 31 RBI and eight home runs. He would become a free agent once again before eventually heading east to Atlanta this season.
In the meantime, Farmer will get playing time in Triple-A Gwinnett until any future injuries lead to his name getting called upon once more.
As the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaches, the Braves remain in solid standing, ranking first in the division while holding a six-game advantage over the rival Philadelphia Phillies .
The team has struggled against New York though, having dropped the first game of a split doubleheader today 3-2 as well as Monday's opener, 14-3 .
