- Barion Brown Is Making His Case for a Bigger Role in the Saints Offense
The New Orleans Saints walked away from Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers disappointed, but not everything that happened on offense deserves to be tossed into the negative pile.
One bright spot was rookie wide receiver Barion Brown.

Brown hauled in all three of his targets for 57 yards, producing the best receiving performance of his young NFL career. Three catches might not jump off the stat sheet, but considering Brown entered the game with fewer receptions across his previous five appearances combined, Sunday felt like something worth paying attention to.
The Saints may have discovered another weapon. Now they need to find out how dangerous that weapon can become.
Brown Made His Opportunities Count
This is what you want to see from a young player fighting for offensive snaps.
Brown wasn't targeted eight or nine times. He didn't have an entire section of the playbook designed around him. He simply received three opportunities and caught all three passes.

More importantly, those receptions resulted in 57 yards, an average of 19 yards per catch.
That's production.
For a Saints offense that continues searching for more explosive plays, Brown brings something worth experimenting with. His speed gives New Orleans another player capable of stretching the field and forcing defensive backs to respect what is happening vertically.
The Saints don't necessarily need Brown to immediately become one of their primary receivers. They need him to become another problem defenses have to think about.
Don't Limit Brown to Special Teams
Brown should continue getting consistent work on special teams. That's part of how late-round rookies establish themselves in the NFL.

But eventually, production should earn opportunity.
Brown was the No. 190 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, so nobody should expect him to instantly become a featured offensive player. Draft position, however, stops mattering once players start showing they can contribute on Sundays.
The question now is whether his performance against Pittsburgh was simply a nice afternoon or the beginning of a larger offensive role.
I want to see the Saints find out.
Give him a few designed opportunities. Put him in motion. Test defenses vertically. Find ways to get the football into his hands in space and see what happens.

You don't have to completely change the offense for Brown. Just make defenses acknowledge he's on the field.
My Two Pennies
The Saints lost the game, and there are plenty of things to criticize about an offense that managed only 10 points. But Barion Brown gave New Orleans something positive to take home from Pittsburgh.
Three targets. Three catches. Fifty-seven yards. Three targets become four or five. Progressively work him more into rotation and a few offensive snaps become an entire package.
That's how young players develop.
Brown has already shown value on special teams. Now he's beginning to show flashes as a receiver, and the Saints shouldn't ignore it.

I'm not saying Brown suddenly needs to become the centerpiece of the passing game. I'm saying he earned the right to get another chance.
For an offense searching for more explosiveness, New Orleans doesn't have the luxury of leaving potential playmakers sitting on the sideline.
Keep Brown involved. Give him a few more targets and let the rookie show whether Sunday was just one productive afternoon, or the beginning of something much bigger.
