Following an 0-5 start, the Los Angeles Chargers appear to be looking for receiver help. Jim Harbaugh's team brought in former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster for a workout on Tuesday.
Smith-Schuster, 29, worked out in front of the Minnesota Vikings on Monday. He dealt with knee issues throughout the summer.
Since leaving the Steelers in 2022 to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs, Smith-Schuster has also played for the New England Patriots. He won a Super Bowl during his first season with Andy Reid's team, then returned to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes after one campaign with Bill Belichick's crew.
When he signed with the New York Giants this offseason, Smith-Schuster reunited with former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, but was released a few months later.
Despite being short at receiver — with Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek sidelined for now — the Steelers haven't shown any interest in adding Smith-Schuster, who began his NFL career as a second-round pick (No. 62 overall) in 2017.
He spent the first five go-rounds with the Steelers, posting 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018. His breakout effort helped result in superstar pass-catcher Antonio Brown demanding his way out of town.
