Recently, fans have been concerned after seeing the Celtics make moves like trading Jaylen Brown , but Knicks superfan Ben Stiller may know when New York "broke" Boston .
It all circles back to the 2025 playoffs, during which the Knicks beat the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Mikal Bridges was huge with his steals , and that might've been the breaking point.
A fan posted a clip of Bridges' game-sealing steal. The Knicks stormed back in the final minutes to take a one-point lead, and Bridges ended the game by stealing the ball from Jayson Tatum .
The fan accompanied the post with the caption , "The moment the Knicks broke the Celtics," to which Stiller replied, "Seems like it."

In a shocking move, Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers , the team that eliminated the Celtics from the playoffs, by Boston. The Celtics received Paul George , two first-round picks, and two second-round picks in exchange.
Perhaps this was surprising to some. Brown, a former third-overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, helped lead the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals six times in his 10 years there. They even won a championship in 2024 (he was named NBA Finals MVP of the series).
What makes it even more surprising is that Brown had a career year in 2025-26. He averaged career-highs in points per game (28.7) and assists per game (5.1). He tied his career best by averaging 6.9 rebounds per game as well.
It would appear that their Eastern Conference Semifinals exit in 2025 had an impact on the Celtics. The Knicks would end up losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers , but they dominated their way through the East in 2026. They would end up going 12-2 in the first three rounds before beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals.
