- Bill Simmons slams Luka Doncic: 'The most insufferable he's ever been'
Luka Doncic has started the 2026-27 NBA season by putting up huge numbers while shooting a high percentage. As a result, he is starting to earn some additional praise from people, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, who called him one of the best scorers of all time after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 138-117 on Monday .
But not everyone has jumped on the Doncic train. There are still plenty of people who continue to criticize him for his supposed lack of defensive prowess. Then there is his penchant for talking trash and complaining to referees, which is something podcaster and Boston Celtics homer Bill Simmons pointed out.

Simmons gave Doncic some praise, but he also said the Slovenian superstar is more "insufferable" than ever.
"I think the guy is brilliant," Simmons said. "I think he's one of the best offensive players I've ever seen in my life, and it's not a new take to say that his behavior during games has been a little insufferable. I think this is the most insufferable he's ever been. I can't believe how he behaves for two and a half hours at these games, and I don't know one person who enjoys it.
"... He's just unhappy constantly with everybody. And if somebody talks [expletive] to him on the other team, now he's got to focus his rage on this."
Trash talking is obviously something that is bound to be polarizing. Fans from previous generations enjoyed watching legends such as Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Reggie Miller launch verbal assaults at opponents, but when Lakers legend Kobe Bryant would talk to or about opponents during games or complain about calls that should've gone his way, he got lambasted by many people.
Doncic is averaging 38.3 points on 49.7% field-goal shooting and 42.7% 3-point shooting, eight rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.9 steals a game to start this season, and he has gone over the 40-point mark four times in seven games. His defense, which has long been a bone of contention for him but started to improve last season, may be a tick better to start this campaign.
Most importantly, the Lakers are 6-2 and have arguably the most prolific offense in the NBA. They rank second in points per game and 3-point percentage and first in overall field-goal percentage and offensive rating. L.A. is also fourth in opponents' turnover percentage and second in points off turnovers per game.
