George Springer entered the Toronto Blue Jays ' four-game series against the New York Yankees with two home runs on the year. He then found his power stroke by hitting two more blasts over that stretch alone.
Springer's second home run of the series was pivotal, as it came in a 2-0 victory on Thursday. The outfielder was elated to lead the Blue Jays to victory and is committed to only improving his game , via Hazel Mae or Sportsnet, h/t Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
"I do it for the boys," Springer said in his postgame interview on the Sportsnet broadcast with Hazel Mae. "I do it for the fans. I owe it to everybody to be better and to play better, and I will."
Following the Yankees series, in which the Blue Jays split, Springer is now hitting .200 with four home runs, 10 RBIs and two stolen bases. Toronto is obviously expecting more, seeing as Springer is coming off of a season in which he hit .309 with 32 home run, 84 RBIs and 18 stolen bases.
But the outfielder has dealt with injury issues throughout the season . After fouling a pitch of his foot, Springer fractured his big toe . He is playing through it now, so he must be able to handle any pain involved. However, that injury could at least point to some of Springer's struggles.
After his two home runs against the Yankees, the Blue Jays are hopeful their star outfielder has finally found his footing. Springer understands the expectations placed on his shoulders. And he plans on living up to all of them.
