Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman became the sixth active pitcher to reach 2,000 career strikeouts on Monday, as Gausman accomplished the feat against the Tampa Bay Rays . Gausman entered the game with an opportunity to reach the milestone. Sure enough, he got the job done.
Gausman is one of the best pitchers in all of MLB. While Gausman has had some ups and downs this year, he is still performing well overall. The veteran right-handed hurler had pitched to a 3.09 ERA across eight starts heading into Monday's contest.
The Rays currently lead the Blue Jays, however. Nevertheless, Gausman's accomplishment is extremely impressive. There are not many pitchers who end up reaching 2,000 strikeouts for their career.
Toronto entered the contest with an 18-22 record. Meanwhile, the Rays entered the game with a 26-13 record. Tampa Bay has been one of the best teams in all of baseball in recent weeks, and they currently lead the American League East standings. The New York Yankees are in second place while the Blue Jays are in third place.
Toronto of course reached the World Series in 2025. It was a tremendous campaign for the Blue Jays despite the fact that they fell short in an extremely competitive World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers .
In order to bounce back this year, the Blue Jays will need more all-around consistency. They have displayed promise at times, but the ball club has yet to figure things out.
The Blue Jays will look to upset the Rays in their current series.
