The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping that slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is doing alright after getting hurt on Sunday. Guerrero Jr. left a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates , after getting hit by a pitch. The slugger is getting an injury update on Tuesday, ahead of a game with the Miami Marlins .
" Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 's right elbow is "still pretty sore extending," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider, so he's not in the starting lineup. They'll "see how he is as the day goes," as to whether he can pinch hit," Sportsnet reported on X, formerly Twitter.
The Blue Jays star was hit by a pitch from Pirates starter Mitch Keller . Guerrero Jr. said he knew something was wrong right away, as he couldn't feel a few of his fingers.
It turns out the slugger is dealing with right elbow contusion .
"The Blue Jays have listed Guerrero's injury as day-to-day and he was in uniform Monday for a series-opening loss to the Marlins," the outlet reported.
Guerrero Jr. is having another solid season at the plate. He is hitting at a .287 batting average, with three home runs and 22 RBIs. He hasn't played since Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh.
Blue Jays fans hope the infielder is back soon in the lineup. Guerrero Jr. was a key asset in Toronto's run last season to the World Series. Both Guerrero Jr. and starting pitcher Dylan Cease left Sunday's game with injuries.
The Blue Jays are 25-29 overall on the season. Toronto has six victories in their last 10 games, heading into Tuesday. Toronto plays Miami at 7:05 ET.
