Borussia Mönchengladbach face an anxious wait over the fitness of Daiki Hashioka . The Japanese defender was taken directly to hospital following Saturday's 3-0 Bundesliga defeat against RB Leipzig. Hashioka was involved in a heavy collision with Leipzig attacker Antonio Nusa in the second half. The 26-year-old required lengthy treatment before being substituted and was subsequently transported to Leipzig University Hospital for further examinations.
According to Kicker , Gladbach are investigating whether Hashioka may have suffered an injury to the cervical spine. His neck was immobilized and stabilized as a precaution.
"We don't know anything yet," sporting director Rouven Schröder said after the match. "He has now been taken to the university hospital. You have to be very careful when that area is affected."
The setback comes at an awkward time for the Foals. Get German Football News outlined Gladbach's right-back situation in our 2026/27 tactical preview , with Hashioka only recently arriving on loan from Slavia Prague after Yukhym Konoplia suffered a knee injury in preseason.
Hashioka's condition could also influence the club's plans for American fullback Joe Scally , who had been expected to leave before the transfer deadline but replaced the Japanese international against Leipzig.
"Joe responded very well," Schröder said of the USMNT international. "As soon as he came on, he was right in the game."
