After a long silence on his front, Atlanta Braves relieverJoe Jimnez brings a major injury update through his personal social media page. In a post on Instagram, he said he had thrown his fifth bullpen session. He added in a caption that he feels his best yet.
"Keep going," he added at the end of his post.
Along with the post, he included a video on his story, which was part of his bullpen session as well.
This is the second post to his instagram that he's made over the last week. He posted a video compelation of his workouts, and he gave insight into where he's at.
"Rehab keeps getting tougher, but that's exactly where I want to be," he said in his previous post. "Doing some of the most demanding exercises an athlete has to go through during this process - testing strength, control, power, and trust in my body again. There's still work to do, but I can feel it: I'm getting closer to playing again. One day at a time. Keep pushing."
It's been nearly two years since the former setup man behind closer Raisel Iglesias last saw action in a game. He pitched both games of the doubleheader that capped the 2024 regular season and helped them clinch an eleventh-hour playoff berth.
Heading into the offseason, he underwent knee surgery that had the chance to keep him out for nearly all of 2025 from the jump. Unfortunately for him, he kept experiencing setbacks. Over time, his career has understandably come into question .
The Braves have previously stated they were happy with his progress wouldn't say much beyond that.
"He's still got some work ahead of him," manager Walt Weiss said back in June when Jimnez was with the team in New York. "But it's encouraging, you know? There's - I guess I would say more hope now than there was six months ago."
During his two seasons as an active member of the Braves' bullpen, Jimnez had a 2.81 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP across 128 appearances. After a mostly lackluster career with the Detroit Tigers , the Braves were able to transform him into one of the most reliable members of the backend of the bullpen.
It could be worth keeping an eye on him with just over a month to go in the season. The odds that he makes much of impact is slim. Keep in mind, he hasn't pitch in a major league came in about 23 months.
But, the Braves would likely try to find a spot to give him a chance if he gets to that point. If he's already five bullpen sessions deep, he may not be far off from seeing live hitters and potentially seeing action in a rehab assignment.
Like he said, one step of progress at a time. Even an appearance in 2027 would be a victory. Many would be down for count at this point. He's still pushing, and since he kept doing so gave him the chance could be, soon enough, on the horizon.
