Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. is currently working his way back from a hamstring injury . A recent report suggested that Acuna would not be able to return until after the All-Star break , and the latest update from manager Walt Weiss supports that report.
"Weiss says it's a 'long shot' that Acuña will be back before the All-Star break," Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Tuesday .
While Acuna returning before the break has not been officially ruled out, it does seem rather unlikely. There is obviously no reason to rush him back and risk further injury. The goal for the Braves is to have Acuna ready for the stretch run and postseason.
With that being said, Atlanta's performance has dwindled in recent weeks following an overall stellar start to the season. While Acuna was not playing his best baseball before getting injured, he still features the ceiling of one of the best players in the game. The Braves would prefer to have him return sooner rather than later.
The good news is that Acuna did get a full pregame workout in right field on Tuesday before Atlanta's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals , according to Bishop.
Updates on Ronald Acuna Jr. 's injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
Meanwhile, the Braves (49-33, first place in NL East) are set to host the Cardinals (43-38, third place in NL Central) in the first contest of a three-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST.
