The Atlanta Braves were the first MLB team to reach 20 wins this season and are atop the NL East. Unlike last season’s 0-7 disaster, Atlanta has taken control of the division with great offense and pitching. Now, the Braves are getting ready for the return of Spencer Strider from an oblique injury, per MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.
“ Spencer Strider ’s next start will be with Atlanta. His rehab assignment is over. The Braves haven’t set their rotation for this weekend at Coors Field,” Bowman reported.
Strider was placed on the injured list late in spring training with an oblique injury. He missed all but two starts of the 2024 season with a UCL injury and struggled in 23 starts in 2025. The Braves were a disaster last year, and Strider was not immune to it. But if he can return to his Cy Young-caliber form, Atlanta may have one of the best pitching staffs in the league.
The Braves have gotten great starts from Bryce Elder and Chris Sale . Elder has a 1.95 ERA in his last six starts, pitching into the sixth inning in five of those starts. And Sale has continued his Cooperstown-bound career, with a 2.31 ERA in six starts. That is helped by six shutout innings, allowing just one hit against the Phillies on Sunday.
Strider finished fourth in Cy Young voting in 2023, his last fully healthy season. The Braves know that he can lead a division-winning rotation, even though it has been a while since it happened. If he does face the Rockies first, it should be a soft landing spot for the righty. They could hold off his season debut for a matchup with the Seattle Mariners , as well.
The Braves are off to a great start, and if the injury replacements can come back strong, they may put together another deep playoff run.
