Braves trade idea with fan favorite All-Star pitcher unfortunately makes a lot of sense originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Atlanta Braves ' 2026 MLB postseason run has been very impressive. The reason is simple: they've gotten by with only two real quality starters.
Chris Sale and Tyler Mahle are the Braves' best starting pitchers, and both are being heavily relied upon. If they had even just one more solid starter, their odds would likely be higher. But, thanks in part to injuries and poor play, the Braves are in a pickle.
Looking ahead to the offseason, fixing this issue is paramount. However, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller's trade idea would have the Braves trading a starter this offseason. Unfortunately, trading this All-Star pitcher, Spencer Strider, would make sense.
Why a Spencer Strider trade would make sense for Braves
"Atlanta Braves send: RHP Spencer Strider ($22M in 2027, $22M in 2028, $22M club option (for $5M buyout) for 2029, Cash considerations. Baltimore Orioles send: OF Nate George (High-A prospect), SS Wehiwa Aloy (Double-A prospect)," Miller shared.
A trade of Strider to the Baltimore Orioles might be a hard pill to swallow for some Braves fans, but this move would, unfortunately, be the best one for the franchise.
While the Braves are going to be in search of starting pitching help, trading away a starter like Strider would actually do the Braves well.
If the Braves can find a taker to acquire Strider and a large chunk, if not all, of his remaining contract, it would be a very appealing move for the Braves.

That extra money could be used to upgrade the rotation, sign a key player to a long-term deal, or simply as some extra room next season if they want to get aggressive in free agency or in a trade.
Trading Strider, despite being a fan favorite, flame-throwing right-handed starter, would sting a bit. But for the future of the franchise, it would be the right move.
Even this package that Miller proposed, while nothing overly special, would be a worthwhile trade for the Braves to make as they try to free up money and reset their starting rotation after a frustrating 2026 campaign.
