Amid the recent unevenness in the Los Angeles Dodgers ' play, a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend was quite a good litmus test. In the end, the Dodgers lost the series rather handily , suffering a defeat in three of those games, including on Sunday — a game they lost 6-2 despite having big trade deadline acquisition Tarik Skubal start for them on the mound.
Year-in, year-out, the Brewers have been fearless in going up against the biggest spenders in MLB. And somehow, someway, even with the roster turnover they undergo every offseason, they keep on finding ways to rack up victories. They have the best record in MLB at the time of writing (77-48), and they even made the Dodgers, the biggest powerhouse of the sport, look mortal.
All the Dodgers could do is give the Brewers their due credit, with catcher Ben Rortvedt explaining Milwaukee's formula for success , particularly at the plate.

"They're a good team; they put the ball in play… When you do that, you're giving yourself a chance," Rortvedt said, via SportsNet LA on X.
What makes the Brewers so dangerous is that everyone is locked into doing their part to put the team in a position to succeed. They trust each other to hold their end of the bargain, and this keeps the line moving quite well.
On Sunday, putting the ball in play gave the Dodgers some trouble. The Brewers opened the scoring against Skubal after an error from Tommy Edman , and in the ninth inning, they put the game to bed after scoring two more off of another error from the Dodgers' second baseman.
Combine that with the fact that the Brewers have one of the best pitching corps in the big leagues, and it's not too difficult to understand why Milwaukee has been so successful yet again this year.
