The Milwaukee Brewers took a 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. It was Jacob Misiorowski on the mound for the Brew Crew as he moved to 7-2 on the season. Misiorowski has been historically dominant already this season.
On Saturday, Misiorowski was dominant again, striking out eight batters in seven innings, giving up just one unearned run. What has made him so different has been the velocity at which he is releasing the ball , according to MLB Stats.
Heading into the start against the Rockies, Misiorowski had thrown 350 pitches at 100 MPH or greater. That was more than any other team in all of baseball. On Saturday, of his 98 pitches, he threw another 52 pitches over 100 MPH, putting them at 402 total pitches over 100 MPH this season.
Adding to the dominance, Misiorowski threw one pitch at 103.7 MPH. That is the fastest by a starter since pitch tracking began in 2008, according to Sarah Langs of MLB. Misiorowski owns each of the top 12 velocity pitches made by a starter since 2008. Langs went on to point out all the dominance that Misiowoski is showing as a starter.
Only two other starting pitchers have thrown a pitch at 103 MPH or greater since 2008, including the playoffs. Jordan Hicks did it twice as an opener, and Justin Verlander did it once. Misiorowski has done it 28 times. He has also thrown 305 pitches at a velocity of 101 MPH or greater as a starter. The next most since 2008 is Hunter Greene , who has done it 305 times. This has led to plenty of strikeouts. Misiorowski has used a 100-plus MPH pitch to cause a strikeout 57 times this year, and 77 in his career. That is the second most of all time among starters, only behind the 96 of Hunter Greene.
The pitching dominance from Misiorowski had helped the team immensely. The Brewers are 39-23 on the season , which places them in first place in the NL Central. They finish their three-game series against the Rockies on Sunday.
