According to BBC Sport last night, Albion are keen on making a late move for Femi Azeez from Millwall, if Amario Cozier-Duberry leaves the club this summer.
What's happening with Cozier-Duberry?
Cozier-Duberry has a lot of demand from various suitors, including clubs like Rangers.
The Scottish giants had a second bid of around £7.5 million rejected yesterday for his services. Reporters like Pete O'Rourke have claimed that Brighton will look for around £10 million to accept a bid.
While it is well documented that Tony Bloom never likes to have a price tag publicly for a player. It could make sense in this case.
Fabrizio Romano has said in the past that Albion were attempting to tie Cozier-Duberry down on another contract, but it seems as though progress has been fairly limited. A host of clubs, as well as Rangers, are keen to get a deal done, but Scottish reports suggest that Rangers will not give up on securing his signature.
With that in mind, Brighton will need a replacement. Having lost Yankuba Minteh to injury for up to 3 months, they could be looking for options on the right side.
For the most part of pre-season, Diego Gomez has been a regular starter in that position, but as we all know, he isn't that type of player.
Of course, there is also the option of new signing Zadok Yohanna. The dubbed 'Nigerian Neymar ' has been impressive during pre-season but does possess a rawness that may not translate immediately to the top level.
How good is Azeez?
Azeez was the top-rated player in the Championship last season according to WhoScored ratings. The exciting 25-year-old winger scored 11 goals and accumulated 7 assists in the English second division.
It wouldn't be the first time that Albion have dipped into this market. In 2023, they completed the £30 million signing of João Pedro from Watford, and it worked out pretty well, to say the least!
Azeez is a very confident winger, capable of taking on his man with his quick feet and running into space. He is comfortable on both feet but tends to cut back onto his left. With that said, he can whip a menacing ball into the box, usually creating and finishing off good-quality chances.
What sticks out the most about Azeez is his ball striking. He has simply scored some scorchers and perhaps has more of a stronger build than Cozier-Duberry.
Having played at a higher level and appearing somewhat Premier League-ready, there is no surprise to see some clubs wanting to sign him this summer. Not least, Brighton!
