Denver Broncos general manager George Paton gave a much-anticipated update on quarterback Bo Nix at the NFL's annual league meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday.
After seeing glimpses of Nix's healing journey after a season-ending fractured ankle suffered in January and the subsequent surgery to repair the fracture, Nix is back to running and jumping.
"(Nix is) ahead of schedule," Paton said in an interview with KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. "He's running, he's jumping. Really proud of how he's attacked rehab. He's done a great job. He'll be ready for OTAs.''
Nix's projection for healing was 4-6 weeks , causing him to miss the AFC Championship game after he broke his ankle in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.
Broncos owner/CEO Greg Penner echoed Payton's positive report on Nix's recovery:
At the NFL combine, Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced an adjustment to the offseason program, which will allow the team to ease into football activities, rather than jumping straight in. This may work to Nix's benefit, giving him extra time to heal his ankle.
NFL's annual league meetings are scheduled to be held from March 29 to April 1.
