The Cleveland Browns enter the new league year with evident needs on the offensive side of the football, and general manager Andrew Berry intends to address them.
While many will make a fuss about Cleveland's cap space (with little to no understanding of cap vs. cash that the Browns continue to utilize to give themselves more flexibility), Berry has stated previously that the Browns will have ample. Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, Berry again addressed the Browns' spending plan as free agency approaches. Here is what Cleveland's GM had to say :
"I would anticipate that there is a chance that we would be more aggressive than last year. But it will be targeted and opportunistic. Realistically, we may be one more offseason away from being hyper-aggressive in that window, but if there is something that fits us, fits our roster, fits our timeline, then it is certainly a swing that we will take."
The Browns currently sit with $3 million in cap space, but can clear a bountiful amount with just two contract restructures. The impending decision of Joel Bitonio will also give the Browns flexibility, whether or not he re-ups for another year or retires.
The legal tampering window opens on March 9, so we will see just how aggressive Berry and the Browns will be.
