Shedeur Sanders is on track to make his first start of 2026 with the Cleveland Browns after quarterback Deshaun Watson was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol. The situation stems from a helmet-to-helmet hit by Pittsburgh Steelers safety Jaquan Brisker during the Browns' 27-6 loss in Pittsburgh.
Watson was cleared to return after the hit and went 27-of-39 for 324 yards, yet the offense settled for two field goals and gave up eight sacks in what became a 21-point defeat.
Todd Monken's Browns are 5-3 on the year, and they have gotten 1,806 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions out of him.

Sanders gets his opening after losing the quarterback competition to Watson, whom Todd Monken named the Week 1 starter on August 24, and he has thrown just three passes since.
In October, he hired his first agent, Adie von Gontard of Young Money APAA Sports, whose clients include former Colorado teammate Travis Hunter, and with the trade deadline set for November 10, it got people talking about his future.
That conversation reached the podium on Wednesday, when ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi asked Sanders why he decided to hire an agent. After a long pause and a shrug of his shoulders, the second-year quarterback closed the door on the topic.
"What that got to do with this game? I'm just focused on this game and everything else doesn't matter at this point," Sanders said.
Last season offers a clearer read on the football side. In seven starts as a rookie, Sanders completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and he was sacked 23 times.
Now comes another opportunity, this time against a Saints team coming off its bye week. The Browns head to New Orleans to face the Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at the Caesars Superdome.
