BOSTON — At 6-foot-4, Mark Kastelic doesn’t often fight guys bigger than he is. But in 6-foot-6 Michael McCarron , the Bruins forward tangled with an opponent with more height and reach.
The confrontation began behind the Bruins net, but the two big forwards moved to the front, perhaps to give fight-fan Jeremy Swayman a better view, before dropping their gloves with 6:10 left in the first.
While clinging to Kastelic’s jersey with his left hand, McCarron hit the Bruins forward with his wrist twice.
Kastelic tried to counter with uppercut. That missed, but McCarron’s dodge allowed Kastelic to land a short left jab.
McCarron lost his balance and dropped to one knee. He got up quickly and tried to throw a right hook, but missed and his momentum wobbled him. Kastelic shoved him to the ground and the officials jumped in.
The play seemed to spark the Bruins, who scored 10 seconds later.
