The extension comes hours before Boston returns to the ice on the second half of a back-to-back against the Pittsburgh Penguins . The Bruins are coming off a 10-2 home win over the New York Rangers on Saturday.
"I think the guys should enjoy the day," Sturm said on Saturday, as seen on NESN's postgame coverage. "They played a hell of a good hockey game. Forget about how high we scored, but we played really, really good. They should feel really good about it."
Boston enters play on Sunday with a record of 24-19-2.
