BOSTON — The Bruins are going to be sad to see January end.
After dispatching the Flyers, 6-3, on Thursday at TD Garden, Boston finished the month 11-2-1.
The Bruins scored the first three goals of the game and kept Philadelphia at arm’s length the rest of the way.
Boston will head to Florida for the last two games before the three-week Olympic pause. They’ll face the Lightning outdoors in the Stadium Series at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday before facing Brad Marchand and the Florida Panthers in Sunrise on Wednesday.
The Bruins’ newly-configured second line of Fraser Minten between Casey Mittestadt and Viktor Arvidsson had instant chemistry. Minten and Mittelstadt each had a goal and two assists.
Arvidsson and Pavel Zacha scored less than a minute apart in the first period setting the tone for the rest of the game.
Minten made it 3-0 early in the second period as he ripped a shot past Samuel Ersson , 2:27 into the frame, continuing the Philly goalie’s rocky night.
After Travis Konecny took advantage of a bad Sean Kuraly giveaway to make it 3-1, Mittelstadt and Tanner Jeannot scored back-to-back goals to make it 5-1, ending any suspense.
After Nikita Grenbenkin scored late in the second, Marat Khustundinov added an empty-netter for Boston.
The success wasn’t without cost. The Bruins, who were already missing Elias Lindholm , who was injured on Tuesday, lost Zacha in the second.
Jaremy Swayman finished with 33 saves.
