The New York Rangers were delivered a big blow during their 3-2 overtime loss to the Utah Mammoth on Monday night.
Igor Shesterkin suffered a lower-body injury in the first period. The goalie needed help off the ice to the dressing room and couldn’t put much weight on his leg.
It’s unclear what exactly caused the injury. Originally it looked as if a collision with Mammoth’s JJ Peterka caused it. But video replay appears to show no collision with Shesterkin.
Rangers coach Mike Sullivan didn’t have much of an update after the game.
“Hopefully it’s not too serious,” he told reporters . “They’re gonna do more tests, but right now he’s being evaluated.”
Jonathan Quick came in for his injured teammate and stopped 14 of the 17 shots he faced.
Shesterkin is 17-12-4 this season with a 2.45 GAA and a .913 save percentage.
The Rangers host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday before paying a visit to the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon.
